Jayme Andersen

Jayme believes pounamu is a magical material that deserves the best possible finish and this is what he strives for when crafting every piece. Originally from Napier, he now resides on a 10-acre lifestyle block just outside of Greymouth. Living in the heart of Marsden pounamu country, Jayme is extremely lucky to have the New River running through his land.

His passion lies with creating pieces that step away from the traditional, yet still retain a sense of appreciation and respect for the forms of our ancestors.

The Rotorua-based carver regards pounamu with reverence and respect born of his Māori heritage, with traditional forms and symbolism deeply influencing his designs. Tamaora is from Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Rangitihi.

As a part of Rotorua’s carving industry for the past decade, Aka has had the privilege of working alongside some of the town’s finest pounamu artists. His designs are notable for their perfect lines and exemplary finishing, and he is particularly skilled at reflecting traditional forms whilst pushing contemporary boundaries. Akapita is from Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Rangitihi.

Driven to tell stories through his carvings, Jason takes inspiration from toi Māori (Māori art) and pushes his limits daily to embody his pieces with depth and meaning. Jason is from Ngāti Pikiao.

Daniel's journey is not just about carving pounamu; it's about carving his place in the world of Māori artistry and carrying forward the torch of his ancestors' artistic greatness. Daniel is from Ngāti Pikiao and Ngāti Tarāwhai.

James Pirika

James Pirika

After finishing high school, James began his journey in the Mountain Jade studio, learning the foundations of his craft from Tamaora Walker. As an emerging artist finding his way in carving, James always finds it important to reflect on where he started, allowing him to stay humble while acknowledging Tamaora’s guidance throughout his journey. James is from Te Arawa, Ngāti Te Roro o Te Rangi.

Raised on the wild and rugged West Coast of New Zealand, Luke still calls Hokitika home. A self-taught artist, he finds his inspiration in nature and has been recreating its beauty in greenstone for over a decade.

Growing up the daughter of a pre-eminent carver, you could say jade runs in Hannah’s blood. She took up carving professionally while just a teenager and now runs her own successful workshop in Auckland.

Dylan's journey in carving began on the retail floor at Mountain Jade, where he became captivated by the craftsmanship of the carvers and drawn to the art of jade carving. Dylan is from Te Whānau-ā-Apanui.

After high school, Foua was at a crossroads about his future and decided to explore his cultural roots and build strong foundations through a journey into carving. Foua is of Te Arawa, Tainui and Tokelauan descent.
